A TOWN Manager has backed plans for a new Home Bargains store in Mold.

Dave Hill said the new proposed store, set to be developed on the former Kwik Save site on Chester Road, will set a new dimension for the town.

He added: “One of the things this town likes to see is the opportunity for residents and visitors to compare what the town has to offer, and I can see that Home Bargains will fit quite nicely into that mix.

“We have the busiest town centre for miles around and it’s nice to see that that’s going to grow now.”

Sainsbury’s had originally bought the site in 2012 with plans to build a larger store and petrol station, creating 300 jobs, but recently confirmed they had sold the land.

Plans have now been submitted to Flintshire Council by TJ Morris (Home Bargains) to bring a store to the area, along with a proposed 208 parking spaces.

The design and access statement said the development will result in two new retailers and a significant investment in Mold.

Residents took to social media to express their views on the Leader Facebook page, and Mo Maddocks said: “Always said a Home Bargains would be great here can’t wait.”

Lauren Beaumont said: “Best news I’ve ever heard.” And Beryl Morrissey said: “Hope it has a café like their other big stores.”
