YOBS set fire to a mattress and grass cuttings in Ellesmere Port sparking an emergency response.

Police and firefighters attended the scene at Bunbury Green at around 10.55pm last night (Thursday, June 21).

Police are now encouraging anyone who knows those responsible to report them.

Ellesmere Port’s police team wrote on Facebook: “Residents near Bunbury Green warned us there was a fire on the green; some youths had ignited an old mattress and mown grass.

“We called in our colleagues from Fire & Rescue; fire out. If you can, tell us about this and we will deal with those doing it.”

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “At around 11pm firefighters were called to a report of a fire in the open at Bunbury Green in Ellesmere Port.

“On arrival the crew found a small pile of cut grass alight. Firefighters used water to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for around 25 minutes.”
