POLICE have launched an urgent appeal for information following the theft of a high-powered car in Saltney Ferry.

The white VW Golf belonging to Jordan Williams, 22, was stolen in the early hours of Saturday morning after the keys were taken during a break-in at his home on Mainwaring Drive.

Jordan, who works in telecommunication, had only owned the car for six days before it was taken.

Though police believe the license plate has likely been changed, its registration is YW16 JUF.

North Wales Police say they believe the car was driven in the direction of Chester.

The thieves broke into the house via the back door, and a locksmith has since said that the unpicking of the lock was of a very professional level.

Jordan's mother, Samantha Williams, said he was devastated and he had only bought the car in Chester a week ago.

She said: "People on social media have said that they drive around in a rusty old car that isn't attractive to thieves. But Jordan has worked hard so why shouldn't he use his money to buy a nice car?"

She said the family had since bolstered security at their home.

If you have any information which may help police call 101.

A spate of ‘key and car’ burglaries across Chester, Ellesmere Port and the Wirral lead to Cheshire Police issuing a warning.

Officers from Cheshire Police are urging residents to remain vigilant following the break-ins, which have seen offenders force entry into homes in a deliberate attempt to steal car keys - before making off with the car.

More cars were stolen in the region over the weekend. VW Golfs, BMWs and Audis seem to be the preferred targets of the thieves.

There are a number of simple steps that residents can take to keep their homes secure and reduce their chances of becoming a victim, including:

• Ensure all windows are closed and doors are locked, even when you are at home or in the garden.

• Use the security measures on modern windows, which allow them to let some air in but still be locked.

• Keep all valuables out of the line of sight of prying eyes.

• Never put car keys or purses on window sills or in view of a window or door.

• Always avoid keeping large amounts of cash in your house.

• Use security devices, such as steering locks, to keep vehicles secure.
