A WOMAN has admitted a £131,000 fraud against her then employer, the Airbus company at Broughton.

Grandmother Carena Jane Land, 53 – who had been charged in her married name of Griffiths – appeared in the dock at Mold Crown Court and entered a guilty plea.

Land, of Eyton Grove, Eyton,Wrexham, admitted fraud by abuse of her position between September 5, 2012, and April 6, 2016, while occupying the position of assistant and company secretary within customer support at Airbus UK.

The court was told she was expected to safeguard the financial interests of Airbus UK, but dishonestly abused that position by intending to make a gain in the sum of £131,967.02 for herself by using duplicate invoices.

Judge Rhys Rowlands rebailed Land pending sentence next month and said she would receive credit for her guilty plea which had been indicated at the magistrates court previously.

“Nevertheless, you know that it remains a very serious matter, I am afraid,” the judge told her.

Prosecutor David Mainstone suggested the fraud was a breach of a position of trust which made it a case of high culpability with a five year starting point and a range of up to six years.

Barrister Paulinus Barnes, defending, said that his client accepted the almost inevitability that custody would be the outcome.

But he said that with credit for her guilty plea and the personal mitigation to be presented, the sentence could be reduced to one of two years which it would be possible to suspend.
