School pupils joined in the festivities in time for the royal wedding.

Year three children at Golftyn Primary School, Connah’s Quay, held their own wedding at St Mark’s Church ahead of the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Saturday.

In the replica of service, a young Imogen Hughes represented Miss Markle, famous for her role in TV series 'Suits,' while Michael Medenica anxiously awaited his mini-bride as Prince Harry did on Saturday.

Although it's a chance for the school to host their take on the wedding of Prince Harry, fifth in line to the throne, to American actress Meghan Markle, the quirky event is a cultural lesson for the youngsters.

Simon Piercy, year three teacher, said it is part of their curriculum to learn about weddings and the background of the royal family.

He added: "It was lovely, really nice and quite tear jerking at times.

"They got to experience what a wedding is really like, some of them have never been to a wedding before so it’s nice for them to experience what it’s like and instead of just learning in the classroom, they have actually seen it and acted it out themselves and it was a beautiful day for it."

The children volunteered, and names were picked out of a hat of who would play the bride and groom.

Father of the bride was Alex Jedrzejczat, escorting mother of the bride, Sienna Sutcliffe, to the royal Golftyn event.

Noah Bayliss held the play service as vicar, while best men and friends, William Lavery, Callum Ackerman, James Wright and Nicholas Cooper, ensured the groom kept up his gentleman values as Prince Harry did at St George's Chapel on Saturday in front of millions of viewers.

The day saw the children walk down the aisle, perform the ceremony, have their pictures taken and then go back to the school for a wedding reception.

The pupils spent the day in their best party clothes whilst learning about how a wedding comes together.

Mr Piercy said: "We thought it would be lovely to arrange an actual wedding day, so the children planned the day themselves.

"It was a lovely occasion for the children and I would like to say a big thank you to St Marks for letting us host the wedding there and Rev. Alex for all her hard work."
