More than 20 motorcyclists decked out as legendary stunt biker Evil Knievel roared through the streets of Wrexham as they set off on a UK tour.

Setting off from the town centre, 24 motorcyclists gathered in Wrexham High Street yesterday to start RIDE Captials 2018 ride out in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Motorcyclist Len Lewis, 88, of Llangollen, officially started the ride out, which will take the riders to the each UK mainland capital city.

The five day ride will also include laps at Brooklands, Knockhill, Olivers Mount, and Kinsham race circuits.

They will also meet celebrity bikers including John McGuinness and Steve Parish.

The ride out comes from the organisers of the annual RIDE Cymru events.

Organiser Jason Lewis said that around 40 riders will join in along the way.

He added: "With us doing the capitals rather than Ride Cymru, rather than start from the border of Wales I thought we'd start from the town centre, bring a bit of colour to the streets.

"Basically, we're riding 10 hours a day for five consecutive days. We're keeping off motorways, keeping off the back roads, so there is a bit of endurance involved, but plenty of fun."

The RIDE Cymru events have raised more than £43,000 for charity since 2012, and the Welsh version of the event is set to return next year.

Mr Lewis said the total raised from this year's ride out was expected to be more than £9,000.
