WREXHAM director Spencer Harris insists the board will do all they can to appoint the right man to takeover in The Racecourse hotseat.

The applicants are queueing up for the job with former Wigan and Chesterfield boss Gary Caldwell and ex-Chester manager Keith Curle, who will leave Carlisle at the end of the season the latest names to be linked.

Another name in the frame could a face much closer to home in former Wrexham captain Dennis Lawrence while Solihull Moors manager Mark Yates remains one of the favourites.

Harris was giving nothing away in who the board were looking but said an appointment could be made by the end of the week.

“We had a significant number of applicants, many of whom would have been good managers for this club but you can only take one,” said Harris.

“We have talked to a number of people, done a lot of due diligence on potential candidates, and we are well on our way to whittling that down to the right candidate for Wrexham Football Club.”

Shaun Pearson, meanwhile, was the big winner at the Wrexham player of the season awards.

Pearson scooped the overall player of the season honour, as well as the Mold Reds, Buckley & District Reds and Shropshire Reds player of the season awards.

Paul Rutherford picked up the Kings Mills Reds most improved player, while Manny Smith scooped the Isle of Man Reds player of the season award.

Chris Holroyd pocketed the Junior Dragons top honour, as well as the Steve Edwards goal of the season and Rhos & District defining moment award for his strike at Tranmere, which handed the 10-man Reds a 1-0 win.

Doug Tharme picked up the Bob Clarke Scholar honour.
