A tasty fundraiser is proving popular while raising a cake-tin full of cash for a children's hospice.

Hope House and Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospices organised a special Eat Cake Week in an effort to get as many businesses, cafe’s and individuals as possible involved in organising coffee mornings, afternoon tea events, bake sales and bake off competitions in an effort to raise funds.

According to Hope House area fundraiser Nicola Sciarillo the event is proving to be a big hit with many supporters putting their diets on hold for a week or two.

She said: “What’s not to love? We have been encouraging our supporters to indulge and eat cake to raise vital funds for the local children that are cared for by Hope House. We have had a great response which proves how popular cake is.

“Most children like to eat cake and it hasn’t been a hard task to get people involved. We have had a fantastic response and it’s been a lot of delicious fun. I’d like to thank all our supporters for their fund raising efforts.”

Customers of Mynydd Isa community enterprise Caffi Isa have been snapping up special rainbow cookies that have been especially baked in honour of Hope House.

Sara Parker, who chairs the Caffi Isa committee, said: “Nicky Godsil, one of our team leaders, bakes the rainbow cookies on site here at Caffi Isa and she can’t keep up with demand. We are donating 10p from the sale of every rainbow cookie to Hope House and it’s something we are going to continue with indefinitely.

“On Thursday, April 26, we are holding a fun bake and share event in aid of Hope House. We are asking people to bring along their most unusual recipes and to share the cakes they bake.

“We want to raise as much as we can for Hope House and Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospices, it’s a charity and a good cause we are really keen to support.”

Staff at Mold-based Cavendish Residential Estate Agents have been pulling in the pounds by piling on the pounds for Hope House too.

Jane Fieldhouse, PA to the senior partner said: “Hope House is the registered charity for our whole group and a cause we raise a great deal of money for throughout the year.

“The Eat Cake Week has been a huge success, a lot of fun and given us a lot of laughs. It’s something we have been doing as staff. We have had bake offs, guess the weight of a cake and, well, we’ve been donating money and eating lots of cakes, scones and delicious chocolate brownies.”

Mel’s Café in Wrexham Street, Mold have also been getting in cake eating spirit in support of Hope House Children’s Hospices.

Server Wendy Smith said: “Every cake we sell on Thursday will see 20 per cent of the price donated to Hope House. It’s such an amazing and important charity and one we were keen to support.”

Café owner Pelin Alp added: “It may be something we will continue with in the future. We have some very loyal customers who will want to support what is a very good cause.”
