A MAN came up with the idea of organising a motorcycle event to help his friend cope with his cancer diagnosis.

Mark Jones, of Coedpoeth, and his friend Mark Dewsbury, of Froncysyllte, are organising the First Lone Wolf Gathering the Club House on Wrexham Industrial Estate on June 22-23.

All proceeds from the event will go to Macmillan Cancer Support, who have helped Mr Dewsbury after he was diagnosed with bladder cancer last year.

Mr Dewsbury was feeling down, but organising the event was helping him to cope, Mr Jones said.

The event was organised to give him Mr Dewsbury something to aim for, as well as a thank you to Macmillan.

He added of Mr Dewsbury's fight against the condition: "He's a very positive chap. He has a very positive outlook and he's quite sure he's going to beat it.

"If he says he's going to do something I believe he's going to do it."

Music on June 22 will come from The Citadels and Coedpoeth performer Tom Mathias, while's the Saturday's musical programme will include performances from Made in Wales and The Swillers.

There will also be stalls and refreshments, and the Saturday will include a ride out of around 30 miles from the club to the Ponderosa Cafe at the Horseshoe Pass, and back.

Tickets are £12 in advance or £15 at the event.
