PLANS are in the pipeline to transform a village pub into a house.

Wrexham Council has received the application seeking change of use for the former Black Lion Inn on Park Road in Newbridge, into a home with two car park spaces.

The pub ceased trading in April 2017, due to "lack of financial viability".

Supporting documents submitted with the application state: "The Black Lion is one of many pubs along the old turnpike road.

"The turnpike road crossed the River Dee close to where the 'new bridge' is today and where the name of the area now comes from.

"There is evidence that the building has been two or more dwellings in the past, and there have been a number of extensions to form a pitched roof storm porch at the front of the structure and a modern flat-roof toilet block at the side.

"The applicants advise that it was previously two or more cottages."

It adds: "As the pub is now closed due to lack of financial viability the owner needs to find a viable alternative use.

"The proposal would be to create one new dwelling from its current use as a public house.

"Access would be as existing, off Park Road."

Wrexham Council planners will make a decision on the proposals at a future date.
