VILLAGE residents believe they the UK’s answer to the Colorado river rapids.

Rossett Community Councillor Paul Goode has called for work to be done on roads in the village which he and neighbours say become a seriously dangerous hazard every time it rains.

Not only are the roads deep under water but huge potholes lurk underneath, presenting even greater danger to intrepid drivers.

According to Cllr Goode and his neighbours, on Monday one driver was stuck in the Rosemary Lane flood and could not be rescued for hours

Rosemary Lane and Stringers Lane have been particularly badly affected but Cllr Goode says that while the roads are patched up, no long-term work is done by Wrexham Council to make them passable when it rains.

He said: “My neighbour has named them the ‘Rosemary Lane rapids’.

“Last time it flooded they used a gulley-suck to take all the water away, shovel a load of tarmac down the potholes, but as soon as a tractor comes along it rips them up.

“I’ve brought up this issue with the council but they say their priority is to keep the main roads open which says to me that they don’t give a monkey’s about those people who live in rural villages, even though our rates have just gone up.

“Stringers Lane has been bad for the last two years, and every time we get rain that’s what happens and the water is full of rubbish and rubble.”

He added: “On Monday a BMW get stuck right in the middle of the flood on the way to Burton Green. He was there for two hours when a breakdown truck arrived and even he couldn’t get him out of the water because it was too high. Another breakdown vehicle came about an hour later but the road was impassable.

“The roads are well-used, particularly by farmers and tractors, and when the Golden Grove was open and this has been going on for five or six years.”

A Wrexham Council spokesman said: “We have contacted Cllr Goode regarding his concerns and can confirm those areas raised will be added to our programme of works, with the aim of completion within the next 12 months. The potholes highlighted will be added to the rolling programme of works.”
