Unemployed women are being given the opportunity to learn new job and life skills.

Flintshire Council has teamed up with charity, the Moneypenny Foundation, to help out of work young women get back on to the job market.

The charity currently runs its ‘Mind the Gap’ traineeship, which sees young women undertake paid work experience in a variety of employment sectors, as well as being given new experiences, life coaching, support and mentoring.

The charity is now partnering with the local authority to offer this same opportunity to 10 young women from October.

Rachel Clacher, co-owner of Moneypenny and founding partner of the Foundation, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Flintshire Council to bring our traineeship to a whole new community.

“Having proven how well the traineeship works in Wrexham, we can’t wait to work with the council team to give more young people the opportunity of a lifetime.

“Working with Flintshire Council allows us to replicate the success of ‘Mind the Gap’.”

Set up in 2014, the Moneypenny Foundation is the charitable arm of Wrexham-based telephone answering service Moneypenny.

Over the last three years the foundation has run three separate six-month traineeships for unemployed young women in the Wrexham area, 70 per cent of which have then moved into full time work or education.

Cllr Aaron Shotton, leader of Flintshire Council, said: “Having seen the transformational results the Moneypenny Foundation’s ‘Mind the Gap’ training achieves, we are pleased to be offering this opportunity to young people in Flintshire.

“We are continuously looking for new ways to address the issues our most vulnerable young people face.

“The foundation’s refreshing take on helping these people realise their full potential and take control of their own futures will enhance the opportunities already made available through our successful apprenticeship scheme.”
