Manager Darren Ryan finalised a deal to bring the striker to Latham Park after Ward netted seven times in 11 games, after a mid-season switch from Market Drayton Town.

Ward has also represented Hednesford Town and Shawbury United, as well as a brief previous stint at Newtown under Brian Coyne.

Ryan was thrilled with the addition of the imposing striker and admits he is happy to end a two year pursuit.

"He's just what we need,” said Ryan. “Tom is a hard working striker who can hold up the ball and score goals,” he said. "I have been chasing him for two seasons so it is great to finally bring him back to Newtown.”

Ryan is determined not to waste the Robins’ 11th hour Welsh Premier reprieve and has reacted quickly to the exit of key players Craig Williams and Ross Stephens.

Defenders Lee Hartshorn, Matthew Driscoll and Paul Keddle have all joined from Merthyr Tydfil, while striker Chris Hartland arrives from Clevedon Town.

Defender Shane Sutton has also returned after a season with Presteigne in the Mid Wales League.

Meanwhile Gavin Cadwallader, Dylan Blain, Andrew Webb, Adam Worton, Dan Dawson, Tyrone McFadden, Robbie James, Dave Jones, Callum Wright, Jamie Breeze and Paul Roberts have all committed.

Veteran defender Andrew Thomas is also set to remain at Latham Park, while midfielder Craig Hutchinson is also in talks.
