THE excitement of Rugby League is coming to Mid Wales with the establishment of Welshpool Marauders Rugby Club.

With the arrival of the Celtic Crusaders in Wrexham, the Welsh Rugby League have laid the groundwork for the first North Wales Rugby League Championship due to commence this summer.

Organiser Barry Williams stressed the arrival of league would not detract from the town’s union side.

“This should not be seen as Welshpool abandoning Rugby Union,” said Williams. “This is merely providing the opportunity for current players and members of the community to participate in a different sport in addition to Rugby Union.

“This should also provide benefits to players before the start of the next Rugby Union season.”

Welshpool Marauders’ first training session for players aged 16 or over will be at Maesydre on Thursday, May 6.
