LATHAM Park hosts a crucial Easter double, with Darren Ryan’s men putting their Super 12 credentials to the test.

Airbus UK Broughton visit on Saturday (2.30pm), before Caersws make the short journey down the A489 on Monday in an eagerly anticipated derby.

Manager Darren Ryan dubbed the Easter double a crucial period in their season long battle for survival.

“Airbus UK have invested wisely and are doing really well under Craig Harrison, while the 2-1 win at Carmarthen Town last weekend showed that my lads can stand up and be counted when needed,” he said. “We were short of a few regulars so I was delighted with the response of the younger players that stepped up.

“With a lot of the sides in and around mid-table dropping points, a six point haul from our two Easter games would put us right up there.

“However we know that Caersws in particular will be anxious to get something after a good display against Rhyl last week.

“We have not got the best of records against Caersws but we need a big performance and three points on Monday.”

Meanwhile former Caersws stalwart Andrew Thomas has called for focus ahead of the crunch double header.

“Both games are equally important,” said the 35-year-old defender, who spent 14 years as a crowd favourite at Caersws before switching to Newtown in 2008.

“From my time at Caersws I know that Mickey Evans will have all the lads motivated for this one and there will be a cup final atmosphere.

“I know of some Newtown fans who would take six points against Caersws over anything else, so this is a massive fixture.

“I always enjoy my games with Caersws. I spent a lot of time as a Caersws player and it will be nice to see some old friends.

“However the most important thing from my point of view on Monday will be three points. We need to get into the top 10 and six points over Easter will go a long way to helping us achieve this goal.”

Newtown boast a full squad with defender Gavin Cadwallader returning from suspension and midfielder Craig Hutchinson back from unavailability.

The defensive duo of Damien Daniels and Robbie James have also returned to fitness.

Meanwhile on-loan goalkeeper Dave Roberts has returned to Aberystwyth Town after being recalled by the Seasiders, who lost regular No1 Stephen Cann for the rest of the season following a training ground injury.
