CAERSWS bid to further derail Port Talbot Town’s faltering European bid, when they travel to the Genquip Stadium on Saturday (2.30pm).

However the Bluebirds’ preparations have been dealt a blow after striker Chris Melia completed a transfer to Cheshire League side Winsford United in midweek.

Welsh Football Association transfer regulations prevent Caersws signing a replacement outside the specified January transfer window.

“It’s a nonsense really,” said manager Mickey Evans. “It is not right that Welsh clubs can lose players across the border at any point during the season, but can only sign players during January.”

Meanwhile Evans hopes a repeat of last week’s display against Llanelli will draw dividends against the out of sorts Steelmen.

“A few weeks ago they looked favourites for third, but they have hit some bad form since then,” said Evans.

“However they have some top players and we know it will be a very difficult game.”
Caersws make the trip to Maesydre in midweek for what could be their final top-flight meeting with Montgomeryshire rivals Technogroup Welshpool.

“We beat them earlier in the season but failed to kick on from there until the last few games,” added Evans.

“I cannot fault the lads’ commitment and barring the Airbus game the players have been putting in some good displays, without necessarily getting their reward.”
