HARRY WHITE may be one of Chester’s summer signings but there have been plenty of changes since he joined the club.

Signed from Solihull Moors just days after the end of last season, the 22-year-old striker jetted off for a holiday in America and only arrived back at the Deva this week for pre-season training.

White revealed boss Jon McCarthy had ‘promised’ that the young forward would be impressed by the calibre of player the club would bring in over the summer and - true to his word – the Blues have subsequently snapped up seven more signings including Andy Halls, Kingsley James, Paul Turnbull and Ross Hannah.

“I’ve been really impressed with the signings, I know of them having played against them at this level and it’s impressive to see the players the manager has brought in,” said White, who has relocated to Chester with his girlfriend.

“To be fair to the manager, he promised when I signed that the calibre of player the club were looking to sign was going to go up a level, and he has shown that with the talent you see here now on the training pitch.

“Myself and Ross are linking up well already, and I’m developing an understanding with Nyal (Bell) and Aki (James Akintunde).

“The midfield and the defence look really strong too. We were working on defending the other day and it was a case of lumping balls up to Ryan (Astles) and John (McCombe) and I’m trying to fight them off, that wasn’t the easiest thing to do!

“But the signs are promising and I think we’ll definitely be looking really solid at the back.”

One of the reasons for making the switch from part-time Moors – who had moved their training sessions to evenings – was to seek the professional aspect White felt was missing at Damson Park.

With pre-season training currently taking place four days a week, combining outdoor work in the mornings followed by gym work in the afternoon, White is adamant he has made the right choice to join Chester, where he also gets to work with striker coach Chris Iwelumo.

“It’s been really good so far, I’m impressed by the professionalism which is what I strived for when I was at Solihull,” he continued.

“Everything has been really organised and the sessions are being run really professionally, and training with Chris everyday that’s only going to improve me a lot as a player.

“It’s what you want from a striker coach, someone who has been and done it at the highest level. He’s done that and everything he says you take on board and try to do as much of the things he suggests, but I feel he’ll improve all of the forwards a lot.

“I’m really enjoying it so far. As much as I enjoyed my time at Solihull the training is what I was striving for and coming in here the set up has been brilliant.

“We’re training each day to a good standard, then we have the gym afterwards so it’s been perfect so far.”

The National League fixtures are published at 1pm on Wednesday and White explained how he is ‘buzzing’ for finding out Chester’s opening day opponents.

“I always look forward to the first fixture, look who we get first up, I’m buzzing for that and I think all the lads are,” he added.

“Of course, you play everyone over the course of the season but who you’ve got first and last is always one I’ll look for, and the derby matches of course, and our trip to Solihull.”
