COMMUNITY councillors in a Wrexham village are taking a dim view of the service they are getting from a major energy supplier.
Members at Gwersyllt say three roads in the village have been left almost completely without street lights, making residents afraid to come to their doors at night.
County Cllr David Griffiths, who chairs the community council, said: “We are getting a sub-standard service and it is wrong.
“The faults have been reported to Scottish Power for several weeks but nothing has been done.
“Some residents are afraid of coming to their door at nights because it is so dark. There is definitely a safety issue involved here.”
He added that several areas of Gwersyllt are affected, with the Old Mill Estate at Bradley possibly the worst.
Cllr Griffiths said complaints to Scottish Power had been made but the company had said it was ‘prioritising’.
Cllr June White said the council should demand to know exactly what that meant, considering the position in Gwersyllt .
Members stopped short of considering to withdraw payment to Scottish Power but agreed to make a strong protest to the company and to Wrexham Council to support their bid to get full street lighting restored.
A spokeswoman for ScottishPower said the company could not carry out the work until receiving an official order from Wrexham Council, which had not yet happened.
She added: “As soon as we get this order we will carry out the work as soon as possible.”
