JAMAL FYFIELD says it is all down to a team effort as Wrexham attempt to equal a club record against Grimsby Town on Saturday.

Wrexham go into the clash on the back of six successive clean sheets, with the Reds conceding just four goals in a nine game unbeaten run.

If they don’t concede at Blundell Park, Wrexham will equal the record of seven league clean sheets in a row set between October and November 2011 when Andy Morrell’s side challenged for the Conference title.

Although keeper Rhys Taylor and his defence will earn recognition, Fyfield insists everyone has played their part and deserve praise for the hard work put in over the course of the season.

“It would be a great achievement for the players,” said Fyfield. “But a lot of hard work has gone into the season and not just these last six games, with the main goal of getting promotion.

“Whether it is Javan Vidal or Mark Carrington at right-back, me, Manny Smith or Blaine Hudson in the middle, Ross White whenever he has played, and Sean Newton, everyone has contributed.

“It starts on the training ground and credit to the boys for working hard in training and implementing the style of play that the gaffer wants us to play.

“It has been a collective effort, we will try and carry it on and get that record.”

A fantastic all-round performance was rewarded with a 3-0 cross border derby victory over Chester at The Racecourse on Saturday, leaving the seventh placed Reds three points away from the play-offs.

“Defending starts from the front so credit to them,” said Fyfield. “I am confident we will win games if we keep a clean sheet because we score goals throughout the team. And if you keep a clean sheet you don’t lose.”

Summer signing Fyfield has made the majority of his appearances this season in the middle of defence and had a brief stint playing at left-back, but he had to bide his time for a recall after recovering from injury with the Reds in excellent form.

Manager Mills turned to Fyfield for the derby where he lined up in midfield and the 27-year-old was pleased with his display.

“A lot of hard work has gone into my game over the years and learning positions,” said Fyfield. “I know how the gaffer likes his midfielders to play, I have put a lot of work in on the training pitches and staying behind to learn a new position.

“If it helps the team in matches then I don’t mind where I play. Hopefully I continue to play well.

“I have played most games centre-back, a couple at left-back and played a few in midfield in pre-season. It is all about putting a shift in for the team wherever you play.”
