CAERWYS 2
CLAWDDNEWYDD 4

HIGH-FLYING Clawddnewydd have one eye on next week’s top-of-the-table clash with Cefn after ending Caerwys’ unbeaten home start to the season.

Clawdd travel to Cefn on Monday night for the biggest match of the season to date, but they will have to improve on this inconsistent display.

“We didn’t play very well,” admitted joint-Clawddnewydd boss Danny Jellicoe.

“We started very well and we were two-nil up after half-an-hour, but we took our foot off the gas and let them back into the game.”

Goals from Dave MacCarter and Endaf Jones looked to have sent the visitors on the way to their fifth win of the campaign.

Caerwys manager Shaun Davies described the goals as “sloppy” and despite playing far better for the rest of the game, Davies felt his side had left themselves with too much to do.

Jake Spencer pulled a goal back in the first half and when he scored another after the break, the match was back in the balance.

Davies admitted that his side struggled to cope with Clawddnewydd's physical strength, with the younger players finding it particularly difficult.

Goals from man of the match Dave Finney and Jordan MacCarter ensured they took the three points.
