YSCEIFIOG 2
CAERWYS 3

THERE may not have been any bubbly about, but Caerwys didn't go thirsty after ending their away day drought.

Not since May 2009 had Caerwys enjoyed a win away from home in the Summer League, but two goals from the impressive Jake Spencer saw Shaun Davies' side end this sorry sequence.

Before the start of the season, Davies said the Champagne would be cracked open when his side won away, but after Monday he said: "We had a few beers!"

With the Alun Roberts Trophy up for grabs, Ysceifiog made the brighter start, despite being without Tom Carney, who was stuck in traffic in Wigan.

Ysceifiog failed to make the most of this spell and a fine 25-yard strike from Richard "Picc" Hughes gave Caerwys the advantage, while Spencer was in the right place to double the visitors' lead.

Paul Roberts was the hosts' star man up front and he halved the deficit with a deserved goal from a tight angle.

Spencer then capitalised on some Keystone Cops defending from Ysceifiog to stetch the Caerwys lead to 3-1, but another goal from the hard-working Paul Roberts set up a grandstand finish with only 10 minutes left to play when he headed home from a corner.

For Caerwys, Geraint Jones was superb at the back, while Spencer gained the man of the match nod.

Paul Roberts was Ysceifiog's most prominent player, while Chris House also caught the eye.
