LLANDYRNOG 4
CAERWYS 0

A MAGNIFICENT seventh home win of the season lengthened Llandyrnog’s lead at the top to nine points.

The Cae Nant side were expected to enjoy a comfortable night at home to bottom-of-the-table Caerwys, but things weren’t as straightforward for the title favourites.

They only led 1-0 at the break on the back of a Lucas Cruz goal.

Llandyrnog could have been further in front, but Tarso Soares - in his last game for the side - and Mally Hughes both struck the woodwork.

But Caerwys gave a battling and encouraging display, and they were still in the contest with around half-an-hour to play.

The dismissal of Ieuan “The Bear” Davies ended any hopes of a comeback, though, and Llandyrnog went on to add three further goals through Cruz, Josh Davies and Tudur Morris.

Joint-Caerwys boss John Owens said: “Until Ieuan got sent off, we were playing a lot better and they didn’t have that many chances.”

However, Owens was far from pleased with some of the Llandyrnog tactics on the night and he added: “Cefn won it with just straightforward down-to-earth football and Llandyrnog should try that by using their skill a bit more.”

Danny Jones had a brilliant game between the sticks for the hosts, while goalkeeper Dyfan Davies, left back Tom Smith and striker Liam Vaughan caught the eye for Caerwys.
