DETERMINED community councillors want plans for a ‘spine road’ linking two villages to be reinstated.

Brymbo Community Council is to appeal against Wrexham Council planning committee’s rejection of the scheme.

Linking Tanyfron with Brymbo, the road was promised to scores of residents who had bought homes in the rejuvenated former steelworks areas. Councillors are angry that Wrexham Council’s two Plaid Cymru members – Carrie Harper and Marc Jones, from Caia Park – had succeeded in persuading the planning committee that the community of Brymbo did not want the road.

Community councillor Ken Monti said: “We are livid. The whole community wants this road and we will fight tooth and nail to get it.

“I don’t mind a thorough discussion at Wrexham on issues, but my understanding is that once a debate has been heard members go with the local members. On this case they certainly did not.”

Cllr Monti added: “I can assure everyone in the light of what was said at the planning meeting that Brymbo Community Council did not want the road, that nothing could be further from the truth.

“The community council is 110 per cent for this vital road.

“What has happened regarding the planning application is disgusting and not fair on the people who bought new homes in the area on the premise that they would get the new road and other facilities.

“They were promised not only the spine road but also a school, supermarket and petrol station.

“What has happened is that they have got absolutely nothing – no road, no supermarket , no school, nothing.”

Cllr Monti has been involved in ongoing talks with Brymbo Development Company regarding the provision of the new road.

He said a meeting will be held in the very near future between the community council and Brymbo Development Company about an appeal against the planning decision.
