If you have celebrated the arrival of a new family member, you will know one of the most important things is giving them a name.
Some will choose a family name or a long-time favourite but many will be inspired by the big and small screen.
Research from Play Like Mum has revealed the UK’s top film and TV show inspired baby names, as well as the baby names that saw the biggest increase after their namesake character appeared on the screen.
Elsa is the most popular film and TV inspired baby girl name of the last two decades in the UK, with 3,121 babies sharing the name of the female lead of the Disney hit, Frozen. After its 2013 release, the name peaked in the year 2014, when 537 baby girls in the UK were given the name.

Remy is the most popular film and TV inspired baby boy name in the UK with 1,417 baby boys being named after the Little Chef from Disney’s 2007 film Ratatouille. The name, which peaked in the year 2020, broke down the stigma of rats in kitchens following the famous phrase “anyone can cook”.
Eleven of the top 20 baby girl and baby boy names are from Disney productions.
Buzz is the UK’s most inspired baby name, with a galactic 280% year-on-year increase since the release of Toy Story 4 in 2019, featuring Buzz Lightyear, a toy action figure/Space Ranger superhero in the Toy Story franchise.

Belle - Beauty and the Beast
Hermione - Harry Potter
Leia - Star Wars
And for baby boys it is:
Remy - Ratatouille
Buddy - Elf
Woody - Toy Story
Edmunds - The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
Ernie - Sesame Street
