Just over three years ago the Leader Camera Club was launched, and now has more than 880 members from across Wrexham, Flintshire and beyond.

In our latest feature - Behind the Lens - we meet some of those in the group who share their images and take part in challenges, contributing to the galleries in print and online.

When and why did you take up photography?

Approximately eight years ago. I enjoyed creating and editing videos and I was looking for a better camcorder.

A good friend of mine had taken up photography and suggested I bought a DSLR like his that would video and take stills. I was hooked!

What do you love about taking pictures?

I especially like wildlife. It's so unpredictable that it's possible to spend hours snapping away and suddenly ill capture an image that I'm really pleased with.

There's also an element of luck involved. I strive to improve my photography, so it's good to look back on earlier photos and see the progress I've made.

My husband enjoys photography, so it's nice being able to share the experience and some competition!

Where is your favourite place to take pictures and why?

My friend Geoff and myself would look for places to visit, including, Gigrin Farm, mid Wales, to capture the red kites, the 'Mach Loop' low level military training ground in the Welsh hills, Horn Mill trout farm in Lincolnshire to photograph the ospreys diving for fish but I think my favourite place has to be Skomer Island, South Wales.

It is a beautiful place and so unspoilt. I love capturing the puffins with a beaks full of sand eels ready to feed their young. They are real characters and are literally walking at the side of you.

What equipment do you use?

I am currently using a Canon 7d mk ii camera. I have various lenses including Canon 70-200 L f2.8 mk iii and Canon 24-105 L F4 but my most used lens is Canon 100-400 L mkii.

What do you enjoy about being part of the Leader Camera Club?

Sharing the hobby and the passion, seeing everyone's photos and being able to draw ideas and inspiration from them.

If you could photograph anyone or any place who/what would it be and why?

Such a difficult question to answer. I think possibly Norway. I would love to photograph the Northern Lights and you never know, maybe a whale leaping out of the sea.
