SAM RICKETTS admits he would be interested in signing Scott Quigley if the striker was available.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell last season after joining Wrexham from Blackpool, scoring eight goals in 17 league matches.

Chances were limited at Blackpool, who he joined last summer from Welsh Premier League champions The New Saints, Quigley only making nine substitute appearances in League One, and five starts in the Football League Trophy, before arriving at Wrexham in January.

Quigley, who has one year left on his contract, told the Leader that he does not want to be a bit-part player at Blackpool next season and was going to hold talks with manager Gary Bowyer to see what the future holds.

“I don’t know what is going to happen next year,” said Quigley. “I don’t really know what their plans are yet but at the end of the day I am going to do what is right for my career so I am going to see what the options are and go from there.

“Gary Bowyer wanted me to go and experience English football, prove I could do it and hopefully I have done that.

“Now it is up to him really, we will have to see what he says.

“I don’t want to go there and play Football League Trophy games, I am going to make that clear, and I will leave the ball in his court. If anything comes up, I will have to see the options.”

New Reds’ boss Ricketts spoke highly of the frontman and is sure to be monitoring the situation.

“From watching the games last season, Scott is a player who is certainly a threat,” said Ricketts.

“He picks the ball up and he can go left foot, right foot, and is a real threat for the position.

“He scored eight goals, should have had another one in the final game which he missed but I will let him off with that!

“I know Scott wants to play football, he did really well here.

“He is a player that interests us because he has got quality and I want quality, but he is contracted to Blackpool and I am not sure what their thoughts are with him at the minute.”

Ricketts will definitely be adding to his attacking options this summer with Chris Holroyd the only striker currently in the squad.

“Forwards are always the last ones because they always hold out for something a little bit different or like to weight up all their options,” said Ricketts.

“If we can start getting them in whenever we can it would be great.”

With 11 players already under contract for the 2018-19 campaign, Ricketts has completed his first signing with midfielder Luke Young signing a two-year-old deal after electing to leave Torquay United.

Ricketts says Young gives him options in the centre.

“Luke is very good on the ball and he can play in a number of positions,” said Ricketts.

“He can play as an attacking midfielder and he can play as a holding midfielder.

“I do see Luke playing a little bit deeper than an attacking role but if we change the formation slightly he can also play in a more attacking role.

“We have signed a really good player and he will be a real benefit to the team.”
