ANDY DAVIES and Carl Darlington are set to take change of Wrexham until the end of the season.

The duo formed the interim management team for Saturday's 2-2 draw at Woking after Reds boss Dean Keates left The Racecourse the previous day to take over as manager of hometown club Walsall.

The club said in a statement they hoped to name Keates' successor "as quickly as possible" and the board met again yesterday to discuss the next step.

Davies, assistant to Keates, and first team coach Darlington are in the frame to remain at the helm while Craig Bellamy, Adam Owen, Adrian Viveash, Andy Morrell and John Askey have also been linked with the position.

"We are meeting as a board over the weekend and we will meet with Andy and Carl, and then we will decide on the way forward," said director Spencer Harris.

"We will talk as a board and then we will see where we go from there.

"Andy and Carl are both highly qualified coaches. They have both played good interim roles before and we fully expect them to do a fantastic job for us.

"We have got to talk to them and make sure they are happy to lead us at this crucial time for the football club, and we don't see any change."

Promotion chasing Wrexham are fifth in the National League with eight games to go and although Keates has moved on - the Reds have received a compensation package - Harris is keen to keep disruption at a minimum.

"Not just Andy and Carl, we see other members of our staff as very important to the future of Wrexham Football Club," said Harris.

"All being well, our intention is that nobody else goes anywhere.

"We have been doing well as we are, if we just keep going along the same way we are going hopefully that leads us to where we all want to be come May which is a Football League club."

Harris admits it was not great timing to lose Keates at the business end of the season with Wrexham challenging for a top seventh finish but he insists it won't disrupt the Reds

"Dean did a great job and we wish him luck at Walsall," said Harris.

"A difficult time leaving us with nine games to go, sometimes life isn't ideal.

"Dean is now part of the history and we have got to focus on the future and that is focus on promotion.

"That is everybody right the way through the club; players, staff, board and fans all pulling together.

"We have come a long way so far this season, we are in a really strong position so let's finish the job."

Davies would not be drawn on whether he and Darlington will remain in charge until holding talks with the board.

"We will have a discussion and see where they want to take it for the weeks going forward," said Davies.

"It has happened very quickly. This weekend has been about the team and getting three points.

"We will sit down with the board and that is a discussion we will have and see what direction the club want to go in."
