IT'S nearly four years since Mark Carrington scored that goal at Stoke City - and Wrexham's vice-captain would love to write more FA Cup headlines.

Kevin Wilkin's side reached the third round of the competition in 2014-15 and Carrington's header put Wrexham 1-0 up at then-Premier League side Stoke City.

Mark Hughes' men struck three times in the final 10 minutes to avoid an upset, but Carrington will never forget scoring in front of nearly 5,000 travelling supporters and hopes to experience more cup magic this year.

"When this time of year comes around it gets brought up again," said Carrington, the current longest serving player in the Wrexham squad. "The videos will be out again!

"It was a great moment and one of the best of my career.

"It is what dreams are made of and in front of the end that was packed out.

"To go 1-0 up as well, it gave us a bit of belief that we could have gone on and done something but it wasn't to be.

"But it was a good day and it would be nice if we could go and do something like that again."

Wrexham, who face Harrogate Town at Wetherby Road in the fourth qualifying round tomorrow, have failed to progress past this stage of the competition since advancing to that meeting with Stoke.

Lower league sides Gainsborough Trinity and Stamford have dumped Wrexham out, and the Reds exited at the first hurdle for a third successive year when they lost 1-0 at AFC Fylde 12 months ago.

Carrington is expecting a tricky test against fellow National League high-fliers Harrogate but the utility player hopes Wrexham can end their barren spell in the competition and go on a run.

"We have not done so well since Stoke, we have come unstuck against some lower league sides and Fylde last year from our league," said Carrington.

"We have got a tough draw this time around but we will be doing all we can to get through.

"There is a magic still about the FA Cup and when you get a chance to pit your wits against the big sides if you manage to get that far then it is always good.

"It is a good day out for the club, for the fans, and a good chance to show what you can do so we will be trying to get as far as we can."

Wrexham have won their last three games since drawing 0-0 at Harrogate on September 25 and are second in the table, level on points with leaders Salford.

With the Reds in a rich vein of form, Carrington admits he'd liked to continue the promotion push but still wants to do well in the cup.

"I think you would probably rather still be in the league and knocking them out, we are on a good run," added Carrington.

"There's not a lot you can do about it, we will take it as they come and do our best to get through.

"You look at the size of our squad and the players we have got, we have easily got a good enough squad to cope with being in different competitions, doing well and firing on all angles.

"We will be going out to go as far as we can in the FA Cup and hopefully get a good tie somewhere along the line."
