MIKE FONDOP made history in the FA Cup last season with Guiseley and the striker is targeting another cup run with Wrexham.

The Lions reached the second round of the competition for the first time after beating Accrington Stanley 4-3 on penalties in a first round replay.

Fondop scored the winning penalty as Guiseley, with current Wrexham defender Jake Lawlor in the side and ex-Reds midfielder John Rooney also featuring, caused an upset against Accrington, who went on to win promotion from League Two.

Guiseley lost 3-0 to Mansfield Town in the second round and Fondop, who went on to have a loan spell with Halifax Town before signing for Wrexham in the summer, loved experiencing the magic of the cup.

"Together we helped the team reach the furthest that Guiseley have ever been in the FA Cup so it was a bit of history," said Fondop.

"It was exciting because we won against Accrington Stanley who were second in League Two at the time so it was a fantastic thing."

Wrexham are up to second in the National League after winning three successive matches, with the Reds on the same amount of points as leaders Salford City.

But although maintaining the promotion challenge is the priority, Fondop, leading scorer with five goals, insists the FA Cup is an important competition and he is focussed on beating Harrogate Town in the fourth qualifying round on Saturday.

"Every game is important and on Saturday, the aim is not to get three points but to get to the next round," said Fondop.

"We all know this history of the FA Cup so for me, I want to go as far as possible.

"We have won the last three games and are joint top with Salford which is really good.

"The FA Cup is something else but it is important and we are looking forward to going as far as possible."
