SAM RICKETTS is appealing the red card given to Luke Summerfield in Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Sutton United.

The midfielder was sent off by referee Alan Dale at the end of the first half following a foul on Jonah Aygunga.

After reviewing footage of the incident, Wrexham boss Ricketts is lodging an appeal and hopes it is successful, meaning Summerfield avoids a three-game ban.

"As it stands at the minute it is a three game ban but we are appealing the red card so are waiting to see what happens on that," said Ricketts.

"It was a very harsh decision. It wasn't malicious, his feet were on the ground, it wasn't reckless, there was nothing really in the challenge and the referee saw it as a red card.

"Whether it gets over-turned we will have to wait and see."

Wrexham will discover the outcome of the appeal tomorrow afternoon, and whether Summerfield will be available for the clash at Harrogate Town in the evening.
