STUART BEAVON says his confidence is returning and the striker is "starting to feel very good again" at Wrexham after a long absence from playing games.

Manager Sam Ricketts signed the experienced frontman on loan from Coventry City where he found opportunities limited last season, the 34-year-old making his last appearance in a 1-0 win at Carlisle United on December 30.

Brought out of the wilderness, Beavon has helped Wrexham emerge as one of the early pacesetters in the National League and he is enjoying his football again.

"It was around Christmas I last played, I just played a few Under 23 games but they are different," said Beavon.

"Even though I didn't play, I was involved but I think my last 90 minutes was September or October so that is how long it has been.

"Apart from that I was just on the bench or an unused substitute for a lot of the time.

"A few games now and I am starting to feel very good again, and I am really enjoying it.

"The goals do help that but for me it is results."

Beavon opened his Wrexham account in the 2-0 victory over Aldershot on September 1 and doubled his tally on Saturday as the Reds won 4-1 against Ebbsfleet.

"The goal gives you more confidence," said Beavon.

"That is what I was missing before I came to Wrexham and now I feel like I am nearly there and I am getting match fit now.

"I hadn't played for god knows how long so it was a case of getting back on the pitch. "Everyone can lack a bit of confidence but getting that first goal and then the one on Saturday, I am getting a buzz for it."

But although delighted to score, Beavon insists picking up three points was the priority to keep Wrexham second in the National League.

"I was really pleased to get a goal," said Beavon.

"But the way I have always played, the result is more important to me.

"As long as I am playing and contributing, a goal is a bonus."

Beavon also set-up Rekeil Pyke for another backheel goal as Wrexham produced their best performance of the season, scoring all four goals in a stunning first half.

"Really pleased with the assist," said Beavon.

"I thought it was a great performance from us first half, we were very good.

"We would have caused any defence problems the way we played first half."

Ricketts has rotated his squad and Beavon has been in and out of the side, making six starts and four substitute appearances.

But Beavon insists fitness is not an issue and he doesn't need to be managed.

"I am feeling fit now so I am near enough there," said Beavon.

"It has been a long time since I was fully match fit and I am enjoying it.

"I can play whenever, I don't think I need to miss games the way I feel, it is no issue to me."

But with Ricketts making changes each game, Beavon understands his manager's approach with such a strong squad at his disposal.

"I think the gaffer looks at the opposition but the squad is so strong and anyone can play," added Beavon.

"He changed a few on Saturday and I thought we were unbelievable first half.

"It just shows it doesn't matter who you leave out and who you are bringing in, everyone is good enough to challenge each other and it is good to have that competition."
