SAM RICKETTS has welcomed playing back-to-back matches on 4G pitches.

Wrexham face Sutton United at Gander Green Lane on Saturday before another clash on the artificial playing surface at leaders Harrogate Town next Tuesday.

Although he is against playing games on 4G pitches, Ricketts believes having two in quick succession will benefit his side.

"I think it is a good thing," said Ricketts.

"You are getting them out of the way and if you are playing on 4G on the Saturday, to go again on the Tuesday you should hopefully be a little bit more conducive to it.

"I don't like 4G but you just have to deal with it."

The Wrexham players will get a feel for artificial pitches before the fixture with Sutton.

"We will train on 4G before the weekend," said Ricketts. "But the problem with 4G is that they are not all the same.

"Modern ones are different to ones which have been down five years.

"The players have played on it before. It is not ideal, I don't think it should be played on 4G but that is my own personal preference.

"We just have to prepare as well as we can and the fortunate thing is we have got two games back to back on 4G."

Ricketts will be hoping Wrexham can adapt to 4G and perform like they did against Ebbsfleet at The Racecourse on Saturday when the Reds built up a four-goal lead by the break.

But having seen Wrexham secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Braintree the previous week, Ricketts feels his players have shown they win games in different ways.

"In this league you go from one extreme to another," added Ricketts.

"Last week we were at Braintree and a pitch that wasn't conducive to passing the ball so you have to play a different way.

"We come back here and we can play. That was the best we have played with the ball and passing style of game.

"On the 4G, is it possible to do it on there? Possibly, possibly not.

"We have to keep being able to adapt and change ways; if you are going to be good, you need to be able to handle all situations."
