FORMER Wrexham captain Connor Jennings has signed a new contract keeping him at Tranmere Rovers until the end of the 2019-20 season.

The 26-year-old striker joined Tranmere in the summer of 2016 after spending two seasons at The Racecourse.

During his two seasons at Prenton Park, Jennings has been a key player for Micky Mellon, scoring 17 goals in 78 appearances.

Although Tranmere were beaten in the 2017 National League play-off final, they went one better this season.

A 2-1 victory over Boreham Wood at Wembley Stadium earlier this month secured promotion back to the Football League following a three year exile.

It means there will be no meeting between the Jennings brothers next season.

Connor's older brother James is under contract at Wrexham who will be spending an 11th campaign in the National League.

During his time at The Racecourse, Connor helped Wrexham reach the third round of the FA Cup where they took the lead at Premier League side Stoke City before bowing out 3-1 in January 2015.

Later that season Wrexham went all the way to the FA Trophy final but the Reds were shocked by North Ferriby United who won on penalties at Wembley.

Mellon is delighted Jennings has committed his future to Tranmere.

He told the official website: “Connor played a big part in helping the team to promotion back into the Football League so I’m delighted to keep him at the football club.

“He is a very clever and talented player who has done really well for us, so I’m pleased he’ll be part of the group which will embark on our first season back in League football.”

Jennings himself tweeted: "That feeling when you sign a new 2 year deal at @TranmereRovers & will be playing League Two Football next season. Time to recharge the batteries & go again next season!"
