TRAFFIC was halted on Monday evening after a man threatened to commit suicide.

Police were called shortly before reports that a man was standing on top of the bridge at the Llay interchange area of the A483 near Wrexham and threatening to jump.

Motorists took to Twitter after both lanes were closed on the A483 between Gresford and Rossett while police negotiators tried to talk the man down, causing severe tailbacks.

A spokesman for the North Wales Ambulance service confirmed that they had been called by police to an incident at about 6.15pm at a bridge on the Llay interchange area. They said they had been called to liaise with police officers but that they were not required.

Inspector Andrew Griffiths of North Wales Police said: “I can confirm that we dealt with an incident this evening where we had to close the road in both directions after a man threatened to jump off a bridge.

“Police negotiators were at the scene and they managed to talk the man down at around quarter to eight.

“No injuries were sustained by the man or any officers during the incident but the man has now been taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital.”

The road reopened just before 8pm.
