SEVEN players have been released by Wrexham manager Sam Ricketts.

Chris Dunn, Marcus Kelly, Scott Boden, Jonathan Franks, Jack Mackreth, Olly Marx and David Raven have not been offered new deals by the Reds boss.

Franks, who joined Wrexham in February after leaving Hartlepool United, only made seven appearances and he took the decision on the chin after discovering his fate on social media.

The frontman tweeted: “I mean i know i hardly kicked ball but to find out on twitter. But what i would of said had i had been spoken too would have been, thank you for the opportunity to represent this great club and i wish them all the best for the coming season.”

Four players have been offered - and accepted - new contracts to stay at Wrexham next season.

Top scorer Chris Holroyd, Paul Rutherford, Mark Carrington and Christian Dibble have all been retained by Ricketts.

Carrington was signed by then-manager Andy Morrell in September 2013 and is the current longest serving player in the Wrexham squad.

The 31-year-old, who will put pen to paper on his new contract later this week, always hoped to extend his stay at The Racecourse.

“I have made no bones about wanting to stay at Wrexham,” said Carrington. “I have been here a while and love being at Wrexham.

“I really want to help the club get out of this division.

“We are not far away. We were close this season and if we can get a few more in and add to what we had this year, we won’t be far away and I want to be part of that.”

Ricketts only took charge of Wrexham a fortnight ago and consulted the backroom staff at the club and watched DVD’s of games before announcing his retained list.

Although Carrington always hoped he would be offered a new deal, he was relieved to get the call from Ricketts.

“When I met the manager he said I was part of his plans and would like me to stay,” said Carrington. “I was made up.

“I would liked to have thought people around the club would have given their recommendations but a new manager might have his own ideas, you are never too sure, so I was delighted he said he wanted me.”

Utility player Carrington is a midfielder who has also played in both full-back positions.

Having made 26 league appearances this season, Carrington admits he would like to make a position his own and become a regular in the side next season but he is willing to play wherever selected.

“Next season will be my sixth season at Wrexham,” said Carrington.

“Since I have been here I have played nearly every position, it will be a small squad and it helps that I can play anywhere.

“I would like to make a position my own, hold down a place in the team and play every week, but I am happy to fill in wherever.”

Rutherford, who contributed with a double figure tally of assists this term, is delighted to be spending a third season in a Wrexham shirt.

“I played a lot of football this season and feel like I contributed a lot to the side,” said Rutherford.

“I am passionate about being at Wrexham.

“I haven’t achieved what I set out to do when I signed, I want to get promoted here and at least get to the play-offs.

“I have still got unfinished business and I love being at the place so I want to make sure that I am here.”

Loan duo Simon Ainge and Scott Quigley have returned to parent clubs Harrogate Town and Blackpool respectively while youth player Doug Tharme has been offered his first-year professional contract.

Eight players - Nicky Deverdics, James Jennings, Shaun Pearson, Kevin Roberts, Leo Smith, Manny Smith, Sam Wedgbury and Akil Wright - are already under contract for next season.
