SCOTT QUIGLEY does not want to be a bit-part player at Blackpool next season and would not rule out returning to Wrexham.

The striker left Welsh Premier League champions The New Saints last summer to join the League One outfit on a two-year deal.

But chances were limited at Bloomfield Road and Quigley only made nine substitute appearances in the league, and five starts in the Football League Trophy, before joining Wrexham on loan in January.

Quigley scored eight goals in 17 league matches for the Reds and has now returned to his parent club where he will hold talks with manager Gary Bowyer to see what the future holds.

But having been a regular with Wrexham, who have appointed Sam Ricketts as the new manager, Quigley does not want to go back to being a fringe player and admits his future may lie elsewhere, although he still has a year left on his contract at Blackpool.

“I have spoken regularly to the gaffer at Blackpool and he is saying they want me back,” said Quigley.

“I don’t know what is going to happen next year. I don’t really know what their plans are yet but at the end of the day I am going to do what is right for my career so I am going to see what the options are and go from there.

“Gary Bowyer wanted me to go and experience English football, prove I could do it and hopefully I have done that.

“Now it is up to him really, we will have to see what he says.

“I don’t want to go there and play Football League Trophy games, I am going to make that clear, and I will leave the ball in his court. If anything comes up, I will have to see the options.”

Quigley, who played under Wrexham coach Carl Darlington when the duo were at TNS, would have no qualms about heading back to north Wales.

“I have spoken briefly about it but I am Blackpool’s player and under contract there so I can’t really say too much,” said Quigley.

“But I would love to come back here and get a full season.

“The perfect idea would have been to get promoted and then come back. It hasn’t happened, who knows how it is going to go.”

Wrexham’s promotion challenge petered out following a dreadful run-in with the Reds finishing 10th, three points away from the play-offs.

Despite missing out on the top-seven, Quigley thoroughly enjoyed his time at the club.

“I have really enjoyed it,” said Quigley. “I loved every single minute of it and the fans have been absolutely brilliant with me.

“I have never seen a bad comment about myself, everyone has been so supportive so I just want to thank all the fans for that.

“It is a great club, I am just so disappointed we couldn’t get to the play-offs.

“I am gutted I couldn’t help them get promotion but I think they have got a solid foundation for next season.”

Quigley limped off just 10 minutes into Wrexham’s final day goalless draw against Fylde, injuring himself after failing to take an early chance.

“I have enjoyed playing games but really disappointed how it ended having to come off injured,” added Quigley. “I did the hard work and all I had to do was slot it in but I did my quad as I hit it and that’s why I didn’t get the best connection.

“It was the last game of the season and I would liked to have given something back, it is disappointing but that’s how it goes sometimes.”
