Sam Ricketts has been unveiled as Wrexham's new manager.

The 36-year-old former Wales international has been appointed on a three-year contract.

Ricketts replaces Andy Davies, who was placed in charge for the final two months of the campaign following Dean Keates' departure to Walsall.

Ricketts was a vastly experienced defender who played for the likes of Oxford United, Swansea City, Hull City, Bolton Wanderers, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Coventry City, as well as winning 52 caps for his country, before hanging up his boots in November 2016 because of a knee injury.

Ricketts has been working in Wolverhampton Wanderers youth academy but will now take his first step into management with the Reds, who are set to embark on their 11th campaign in the National League.

Wrexham AFC Director Spencer Harris commented: "We are delighted to welcome Sam to Wrexham as the Club's new permanent manager.

“As expected, there was huge interest in the position, but we believe we have chosen the outstanding candidate to take the Club forward, to match our own aspirations and those of our supporters.

“Sam is a man with an excellent pedigree in football and we believe he has the knowledge, drive and determination to bring success to the Club as we build for the future.

“We are sure Sam will receive the usual tremendous backing from our fantastic supporters and we now look forward with real enthusiasm to the new season."
