SHAUN PEARSON believes the cross-border derby victory has given everyone connected with Wrexham a timely boost going into the final nine games.

Wrexham ended a run four successive draws by beating arch rivals Chester 2-0 on Sunday, taking the Reds up to fourth in the National League, and captain Pearson did not underestimate the importance of picking up three points in the push for promotion.

"It was a big result for us," said Pearson. "I think it was a bit of a blessing the game at Ebbsfleet being called off. the week before.

"We have had a lot of draws, I wouldn't say negativity but a bit of frustration creeping in.

"Fans, players, everything, it sort of got on top of us a bit and sometimes you forget where you are in the league - we are still having a good season.

"Hopefully that derby win will get that frustration off the backs.

"It just gives everybody a lift. Fans go away buzzing, players come away a lot more confident, a buzz around the place and hopefully we get that momentum back and a little bit of snowball effect going into the last few games.

"We push on together, finish strongly and hopefully we get what we all want come the end of the year."

Wrexham are unbeaten in 13 games and Pearson wants to build on the derby success by beating Woking tomorrow and continue churning out the wins in the run-in to guarantee at least a play-off berth.

"It will be another difficult game but hopefully we can go there and get three points," said Pearson.

"Woking have struggled for form of late so hopefully we can take advantage of that.

"If we can ourselves in front, hopefully we can pile a bit more pressure on them and try and get a little bit of a run going with wins rather than the unbeaten run in terms of draws.

"Hopefully that will give us a real momentum shift and we can really push on for the last few games."
