Wrexham coach Alan Jenkins insists his side must keep improving to sustain their promotion challenge in Division Two.

With no league game last weekend, Wrexham lost ground to rivals Shotton Steel who are now five points ahead in second place.

Saturday's home clash with seventh-placed Newtown gives Jenkins' men the chance to keep within touching distance of the second promotion place behind runaway league leaders Denbigh.

He said: "We need to keep winning to maintain the pressure on Shotton and keep us away from Cobra. They won at Denbigh and are a concern for us because they're just below us with games in hand.

"We had a valuable away win at Bangor last time, so we won't be looking at making too many changes for this week and look as if we'll get a decent team out for Newtown.

"I felt we weren't clinical enough again even though we won so we've had a look at that in training and have worked hard to improve those elements.

"Even though we beat Newtown twice last season we found them an awkward team to play against, so we're not judging them on their league position but the close games we had last season.

"As usual we'll be looking to run the ball so hopefully the rain has passed until after the game and we can play some attractive rugby."

Shotton coach Mike Roberts says his in-form side are unconcerned about league positions heading into their game at Llangollen.

With 13 wins from 15 this term and a game in hand on pacesetters Denbigh, Roberts side remain outsiders for the league title.

Those prospects were enhanced by an emphatic 50-0 win at Abergele last weekend, with tries from Darren Rees (2), Dan Lynskey (2), John Ketland, Matthew Condren, Shane Poynton, Karl Jones and Steve Ellson.

But with five league games remaining and his side flying high, Roberts is relaxed about his side's run-in.

He said: "There's no added pressure on our part.

"We agreed this season that it was more important to focus on each game as they come and let other worry about league positions.

"The only pressure on us is to maintain our current standards and if possible improve on them. We have a full squad to select from so we are confident going in to the game but the small pitch at Llangollen can be a bit of an equalizer at times."

Denbigh will be out to avenge last week's loss when they head to Cobra, while Llanidloes host Bangor and basement side Abergele visit Welshpool.

Mold will also have revenge in mind as they visit Division One rivals Bro Ffestiniog a week after the Gwynedd side inflicted a 13-6 reverse.

Frontrunners Nant Conwy go to Llangefni, Bala visit Ruthin, Pwllheli host Dolgellau, Colwyn Bay entertain Bethesda and Caernarfon go to Llandudno.

Flint's ambitions to finish among the top four in Division Three will be tested in their home-clash against second-placed Holyhead, while leaders Nant Conwy seconds host Denbigh seconds.
