RGC clinched the Principality Premiership West crown with a convincing 27-10 win at Bridgend Ravens.

Mark Jones’ side take eight points into the Principality Premiership when it re-joins on December 30, and they begin the second phase of the season with another tie against the Ravens at Stadiwm Zip World.

The home side began the game in imposing fashion and got their rewards early on when Cai Evans finished off an impressive move by touching down, with the same player dusting himself off to fire over the extras.

Both sides enjoyed spells of pressure following the opening score, but neither were able to put the finishing touches on their attacks thanks to some standout tackling from the back-lines.

It was the hosts who extended their advantage midway through the half through the boot of Evans after an infringement from the Gogs, but the visitors finally got some points on the board on 35 minutes when New Zeland fly-half Jacob Botica despatched a penalty of his own.

Evans missed a free-kick for the Ravens just before the break when his effort flew narrowly wide of the posts, but RGC managed to get themselves back on level terms at the break when Dion Jones produced a fine piece of individual skill to cross the white wash after superb play from former Academy star Dan Owen. Botica added the extras.

Immediately after the break saw the visitors reduced to 14 men when Evan Yardley was shown a yellow card, but despite their disadvantage they looked the more likely to get their noses in-front during the initial stages of the period.

Their resolute start to the half was rewarded when Botica notched his second penalty to put them ahead for the first time in the contest, and things got even better soon after when Jones burst over for his second try which Botica converted.

The home side were finding it difficult to cope with the Gogs’ pressure and they fell further behind in the closing stages when Tom Hughes capped off another brilliant display with a score, with Botica steering over the extras to round off the scoring.
