The region's youngsters were in commanding form at the latest leg of the UK Young Athletes League meeting in Deeside.

In a competition comprised of U13 and U15 athletes, Deeside teenagers excelled at their home event and took the team honours with a 691-point haul.

Hannah Smith triumphed in the U15 Girls 300m with a winning time of 44.8 seconds, before completing a double by taking the 800m honours (2:28.02).

Neisha Roberts' strong campaign continued as she took 1500m gold, Hannah Smith and Morgan Edwards won the high jump and pole vault events respectively while Beth Allen placed third in te long jump with a leap of 4.39 metres.

In the U15 boys section, Thomas Maguire stormed to a 12.4 second victory in the 100m sprint.

The U13 girls section yielded another slew of Deeside victories for Eden Edwards in the 800m (2:33.8), Maisy Parry in the 1200m (4:14.0) and high jump (1.20m).

In the boys category, George Savage recorded a memorable hat-trick as he won the 100m (13.4 seconds) 200m (27.6 seconds) and long jump (4.44 metres).

Poppy Bostock excelled for Wrexham with her own winning treble in the U13 section.

After a 10.5 second victory in the 75m race, she followed with success in the 150m (21.5 seconds) and long jump (4.5 metres).

Beth Christy placed third in the 1200m with a PB time of 4.35.2, while Grace Meredith took U15 long jump silver (4.51 metres) and Lowri Jarvis won 100m bronze.

The U15 boys javelin event saw Oliver Whitby finish second with an effort of 26.58 metres, while U13athlete Andrew Cook took bronze in the shot (4.45 metres).

Deeside's U20 hammer thrower Amber Simpson represented Wales at the Loughborough International and threw 56.95m to beat her own Welsh Junior record and finish fifth at the senior event.

Meanwhile U11 athlete Lucy Jones starred for Wrexham in the Maldwyn Open in Newtown, with first in the 600m followed up by a silver in the long jump and third in the 75m race.

Wrexham AC runner Sam Sussex stormed to a new pb of 15:43 at the Christleton 5K to finish 17th outright in a quality field.

Sussex was followed over the line by clubmates Emma Crowe (18.16), Bernie Jones (18.18), Mike Robbins (18:54), Dave Milington (19:18), Peter Sussex (20:03), Gwyn Roberts (20:58), Billy Brown (21:55), Richard Westwood (22:30), Neil Bull (23:01), Martin Cartwright (24:02), Anna Moccia (25:20), Donna Brown (27:13), Eurona Jones (33:56) and Alyson Winn (35:07).

Buckley Runners quartet Chris Myles (16:34), David White (16:41), Craig Davies (17:01) and Gary Blackwell (18:05) were also in action along with Deeside AC's Lee Jones (15:51).

Jez Brown led home his Buckley Runners team mates at the gruelling Cader Idris Mountain Race.

A time of 1:35:20 saw Brown place ninth in 21 degree heat on the 11-mile course that features 3,000 feet of ascent.

Elliot Cox (1:40:53) finished in 16th place, with Chris Callaghan (1:47:39) placing 36th.

Wrexham AC finishers included James Miles (2:10:14), Linda Jones (2.27.26), Charles Ashley (2.30:41), Yricka Gardner (2:41:53) and Karen Owens (2.48.45).

Wrexham man Daniel Weston (17:31) won the latest Erddig Parkrun and was followed by clubmates Eden O'Dea (20:07) in fourth, and John Atkinson (20:55) in eighth.

North Wales athletes head to Trafford on Sunday for the latest meeting of the U17-U20 UK Young Athletes League.

Closer to home, the Mynydd Myfyr Hill Race starts in Trefonen at 11.30am, before the Trafford AC Open U11-U15 Medal Meeting in Stretford at midday on Monday.
