A TEENAGE swimmer who learnt to swim at Chester City Baths has made a splash at the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

17-year-old Cassie Wild, of Mold who represents Scotland having been born in Edinburgh, competed in the 100m and 50m backstroke events in the the Gold Coast games.

Student Cassie, who attends Ellesmere College, made the semi-finals the 100m backstroke, narrowly missing out on a place in the final. Finishing overall in ninth position.

The last day of competition saw Cassie compete in the 50m backstroke final. She produced a powerful last 25m bearing down on the big guns of Seebohm, Masse and Davies, coming within 0.07 seconds of taking the senior Scottish Record and finishing a very close 5th place. 0.40 seconds separated first and fifth place.

Cassie, who swims for Ellesmere Titans with her Team Scotland teammate Freya Anderson, has now been selected as part of the senior team to represent Great Britain at this summer’s 2018 European Championships in Glasgow.
