Lingfield’s All-Weather Finals Day has once again come up trumps with a cracking card and Second Thought looks a rock-solid 13/8 favourite in the Sunbets Mile Conditions Stakes (4.10).

William Haggas’ charge was completing an all-weather four-timer when a winner at this meeting 12 months ago, despite being hampered in the run, lashing home to lead late on.

The four-year-old produced some excellent form back on turf, including a fine second behind Harry Angel at Haydock, but he’s taken his form on all-weather to a new level again this winter, landing back-to-back Listed contests at Kempton and Lingfield, taking his record on synthetics to a perfect six from six.

The step back up to a mile holds no fears for Second Thought (pictured above) who has landed stall one and should prove very hard to beat under James Doyle, for all that Tom Dascombe’s Arcanada will prove a sturdy advisory.

Petite Jack looks overpriced at 14-1 in the Middle Distance Championships Conditions Stakes (4.40) and is worth chancing in an open-looking contest.

Archie Watson’s five-year-old is a strong traveller who often looks set to bolt up around Lingfield, where he’s won six times, but sometimes lacks for a finishing effort, hence his double-figure price.

However, there was an awful lot to like about his win in a Listed contest over course and distance in December, and wasn’t disgraced when fifth behind Mr Owen in the Winter Derby a month ago.

Luke Morris rides at Newcastle, so Hollie Doyle takes over but a change of rider may just coax out that little bit more improvement in Petite Jack to make him a serious player.

Newcastle’s card arguably provides the better punting opportunities, with Cosmeapolitan looking to have a great chance in the Betway Handicap (3.20).

Alan King’s charge had a fine season as a three-year-old but didn’t quite hit the same heights last summer, but the gelding’s mark did drop to a handy 88 as a result.

The five-year-old has thrived on the switch to an all-weather surface this winter, a good second in a decent Lingfield handicap prior to a very cosy win at Kempton in February, leading hard on the steel two out and quickening to put the race to bed, only to idle inside the final furlong, but always in command.

Cosmeapolitan is just 4lb higher here and Jamie Spencer looks an ideal booking to deliver King’s improver late in the race, at a track which notoriously favours hold-up performers. He's 7-1 with Powers.

Welliesinthewater has dropped to a dangerous mark and can strike a blow for trainer Derek Shaw in the Sunbets.co.uk Handicap (2.45) over seven furlongs.

The eight-year-old went off the boil having racked up a sequence of wins at Chelmsford in the spring, but recent signs of revival make him interesting dropping back into class four company.

An eye-catching piece of form of interest here is a good third over course and distance back in June, travelling well but unable to reach well-handicapped winner War Department who was winning off 91.

Welliesinthewater ran to a decent level that day so appeals as being well treated now off 81 and there was plenty of encouragement in a fine third in-behind Hayadh at Wolverhampton in February, rattling home up the straight but just unable to reach the winners.

Shaw’s yard remain in good form with four winners from their last 16 runners and Philip Makin is a positive booking given he rides Newcastle well. He’ll do for me.
