Fresh form his recent Cross Country Championship success, prolific Wrexham AC athlete Matt Willis stormed to victory at the British Duathlon Championships in Bedford.

Racing for Chester Triathlon Club, Willis won the Elite Junior race with a commanding display in which he led from the outset.

A time of 14:31 in the opening 5K run preceded an impressive showing on the 20k cycling leg, which Willis completed in 28:02 to extend his lead by five seconds.

He sustained an impressive performance in the home straight where he clocked 08:09 in the the 2.5K run to finish 46 seconds clear of Connor Bentley in second and Guy Evans-Haggerty in third.

Buckley Runners man Jez Brown enjoyed a resounding victory at the Llantysilio Fell Race near Llangollen.

Brown's time of 57:15 on the challenging terrain put him almost three minutes clear of Penny Lane Striders man Laurence Eccles (59:49) in second.

Wrexham AC's Ryan Davis (1:00:16) was fourth, ahead of Buckley duo Simon Edwards (01:03:37) in 10th and Andy Pritchard (1:07:18) in 19th.

Buckley's fine collective performances, which included finishes for Steve Toogood (1:08:51), Peter Agnew (1:10:43) , Huw Lewis (01:14;10) and V70 champion John Morris (01:23:08) made them the winning team on the day.

Wrexham's other finishers were Lee Thornton (1:09:45), Karen Owens (1:35:48) and Yricka Gardner (1:39:10).

Another strong run of 37:03 from Buckley's Brown clinched third place at the Denbigh 10K, with clubmate Craig Davies (37:41)

close behind in fourth place.

Deeside AC's Robert Oliver (50:39) was also among the finishers, along with Wrexham trio Emma Richards (53:25) Alyson Winn (01:18:18) and Eurona Jones (01:18:22).

Richard Westwood was Wrexham AC' sole representative at the Brynkinalt 5K and did his club proud with a finish time of 23:00 to place fifth outright.

Samuel Sussex was the first home at the latest Erddig Park Run, where a time of 18:20 put him 23 seconds clear of clubmate Richard Shearer in second place.

Buckley's Chris Wilcox (23:27)was 13th at the 5K time trial, ahead of Wrexham pair Callum McGrath (24:11) and Phoebe Norfolk (24:53) in 18th and 20th place respectively.

Deesider Owen Hibbert (19:26) was first home at the Wepre ParkRun event with clubmates Euan Coney (21:05) and Steve Jolly (21:46) both placing among the top 10, and Buckley's Paul Donoghue (23:36) in 13th.

A busy fixture schedule across the Easter weekend starts at 10.30am on Saturday with the Easter Prom 5K in Llandudno.

The Air Products 10K in Crewe gets underway at 10.15am on Sunday and is sure to attract dozens of North Wales runners.

On midday at Monday, Stretford plays host to the latest Trafford AC Junior open with entrants competing across under-11 through under-15 categories.
