North Wales Crusaders coach Mike Grady was left frustrated by his side's technical shortcomings in the 30-2 home reverse to Oldham on Sunday.

Despite taking an early lead courtesy of Tommy Johnson's second minute penalty, the Wrexham-based club failed to score as Oldham dominated and ran in six tries.

The Cru remain winless in League One this term, with a draw and two defeats from their three opening fixtures leaving them 11th in the league table.

And as Grady was left to reflect on another heavy defeat for his side, he criticised his side's poor execution of a 'simple game plan'.

He said: “If one word sums that game up, then it would have to be disappointing.

“We’ve shown some great commitment in defence, but ultimately when you’re defending set after set on your own line then there is only so many times you can hold the opposition out.

“We haven’t been smart enough, we haven’t created chances and haven’t got into their half enough to be able to have any impact on the game.

"We didn't apply ourselves, and just weren't at the races on numerous occasions during the game.

"It's a mixture of things - the completion wasn't what I asked for and we wanted to play a simple game but we haven't managed to do that.

"We seem to be always speaking about the effort and the commitment, which is always there but the technical side isn't right and that needs to be addressed."

The Cru entered the season in buoyant mood after recruiting extensively throughout the winter to bolster their selection options.

And Grady admits he will look to alter his starting line-up as well as their training preparations for their Good Friday clash with West Wales Raiders.

He said: "We've got to address things this week in training in terms of changing personnel. Me and Johnny (Leather) will have a look at it because some things need to change and will change.

"We need to learn to win that contact, win that wrestle and smarten up a lot before we go into the West Wales game.

“We’ll need to go away and have a good look at this performance, it wasn’t good enough so we’ll need to work out what has gone wrong.

“Whether it’s players that need changing, or something which Jonny and I are doing in training, we’ll be working hard during the week because we need to get going.”

“It’s important that we pick up our first league victory sooner rather than later, so we are now 100% focused on the game against West Wales and putting some wrongs right next week.”
