John Haseldin has challenged his Holywell Town players to arrest their end of season slump in form and secure a Newfa Cup final place.

The Wellmen boss, who will leave the club at the end of the season, has demanded a strong performance against Flintshire rivals Airbus on Wednesday evening.

After an impressive Alliance campaign, Saturday's 1-0 reverse at Penrhyncoch was fifth-placed Holywell's third successive loss and ended hopes of improving their league position.

Frustrated by his side's recent profligacy in front of goal, Haseldin has called for a more clinical finishing display at Cae-y-Castell.

He said: "It's been the same old story in the last few weeks, with us not putting chances away when we're on top in games.

"We need to be more ruthless and kill teams off when we get the chance.

"I can't really explain why results have dropped off in the way they have - maybe some players have had one eye on this game and have been a bit distracted.

"But I expect a reaction now and I fully expect us to bounce back with a performance that shows what we're capable of doing.

"Hopefully we'll take a decent crowd to Flint for the game and we can reward our fans with a place in the final to try to get a positive end to the season."

Andy Thomas says Airbus will keep faith with the youngsters who have already featured prominently in this season's competition.

The Wingmakers' league campaign ended with a third-place finish three weeks ago, and assistant manager Thomas believes the club's academy players deserve the chance to resume their cup challenge.

He said: "It's an ideal chance for myself and Steve (O'Shaughnessy) to have another look at some of the younger lads. We believe they have earned the right to start the game after doing so well for us in the earlier rounds.

"It'll be a tough test for them against a strong Holywell side, but we think it will be a big learning experience for them and will only improve them for the future.

"Obviously Holywell will go into the game as favourites, but we believe that the younger lads testing themselves against senior players will step up their development and benefit the club."

The likes of Blake Robinson, Jack Murphy, Harvey Ellis and Joe Davies are all expected to feature in the Airbus line-up.

Holywell are buoyed by the return of Gareth Sudlow, Danny Desormeaux, Lee Davey and Shaun Tuck to their squad.

The winner of tonight's game will face Ruthin Town in the final on May 18.

League Cup winners Flint Town United signed off from Cymru Alliance action with a 1-1 draw at Porthmadog.

Richie Foulkes' late penalty salvaged the Silkmen a point and a ninth-place finish after Joe Chaplin's 21st minute opener for the hosts.

Ruthin were beaten 1-0 at Caersws in their final game, Steven Blenkisop netting an 86th minute winner for Cws.
