DEAN KEATES believes Sam Wedgbury is the perfect role-model after securing the midfielder's services for another season.

Wedgbury, who has impressed in the heart of midfield since joining from Forest Green last summer, is out of contract at the end of the season but the 28-year-old has penned a new 12 month deal.

"I am delighted Sam has signed," said Keates. "He epitomises everything about the football club and what the area is about.

"It's a working class town and he works and works, he covers every blade of grass.

"He is a great lad around the place Monday to Friday, no different them days to a Saturday. His work rate is there, he has always got a smile on his face, is a great character, and he gives us everything.

"I activated a clause in his contract, he had a bit of a knee injury last season so we put that in just in case.

"We just wanted to see if he could have a consistent run of games and he has done it so it was a no-brainer for us as a football club, he has earned it,

"I am delighted to get him tied down and he is one ticked off ready for next season."
