Northop won’t be taking victory for granted as they tackle Llandudno for the second time in a week.

The Flintshire side made very light work of a depleted Llandudno in Sunday’s Welsh Cup first round, Northop running out 159-run victors, thanks largely to Ben Beaver’s unbeaten 105.

And now Mark Poynton’s men head to The Oval tomorrow looking to put some more Premier Division points on the board.

Team manager Dale Harley said: “We had a look at some of their lads last weekend, Sam Rimmington played and one or two others. But we know they were struggling for a side after playing at Hawarden Park the day before.

“We expect to play against a different Llandudno side this weekend. They will be stronger, but we will make the trip full of confidence and ready to play.”

Victory over Llandudno followed on the back of a three-wicket Premier Division success against Connah’s Quay, Tom Blackwell recording 5-41 and hitting 38, with Gareth Williams top scoring with 49 as Northop chased down 134.

“Tom worked really hard for his five wickets,” said Harley. “It was good to see Gaz get some runs, he batted well and then Ben was brilliant on Sunday.”

Harry Lewis is set to return for Northop.

Martin Burger is confident Connah’s Quay’s season has been kick-started by Sunday’s Welsh Cup derby win over Northop Hall.

Quay suffered “a bit of a knock” when they were beaten by three wickets at Northop last Saturday, but followed that loss up with a six-wicket success over Hall.

Burger blasted 171 not out as Quay eased past Northop Hall’s earlier score of 254 for four with five overs to spare, something the skipper believes will spark his side into life.

“Saturday was disappointing, not majorly, but what happened on Sunday can be a kick-start for us,” said Burger, who is absent for tomorrow’s home clash with Bangor. “It was a tough chase against Northop Hall, but it helped focus our minds and it was a great win for me.

“I was seeing the ball like a hot air balloon.”

Quay will miss Burger’s all-round ability, but the South African is confident that Matt Redinger and David Fox can fill the void.

“Matt is aching to get out in the middle after watching that Welsh Cup game,” said Burger. “He and Foxy will soon start scoring some impressive runs.”

Joining Burger on the sidelines are Mitch Van Wyk and Lee Davies.

Hawarden Park must match Denbigh’s work-rate if they are to claim their first away win, according to captain Ian Martin.

The Flintshire side battled their way to a two-run home success over Llandudno last weekend, and Martin wants more of that fighting spirit tomorrow.

He said: “It was a really good win last week, the team spirit is very high and that’s what got us the win.

“Denbigh have a good team ethic, which wins them matches, but I’m confident if we match their work-rate and effort then we can win.”

David Hughes and Liam Naylor miss out for Hawarden, who are able to call on the services of Craig Wilson and Mike Wootton.

Leaders Brymbo are looking to extend their lead at the top tomorrow ahead of next week’s fixture blank.

Ahead of the trip to St Asaph, captain James Claybrook said: “We have a free Saturday next week so we will be looking to extend our lead and put pressure on Menai to catch us with there game in hand.”
