BEN BEAVER announced himself on the Welsh Cup with an eye-catching performance in Northop's 159-run first round win over Llandudno.

Rising star Beaver struck an unbeaten 105 from 109 balls, including nine fours, as Northop scored 261 for four from their 40 overs, Thomas Hughes (68) and Tom Blackwell (33) joining their young team mate in the runs.

A depleted Llandudno found the going tough after the turnaround as Beaver showcased his skills with the ball, taking 4-15 from just 19 balls to bowl the visitors out for just 102.

Andy Poynton, Bart Beswick and Blackwell were also in the wickets as Northop secured a second round home tie with Denbigh, who beat Mochdre by 95 runs.

Sam Lewis hit 45 not out and Harrison Jones added 30 as Denbigh posted 177 for six, Aamer Sarder pocketing 3-27 from his eight overs.

Alec Lewis pocketed 5-9 from eight overs as Denbigh ran through to Mochdre batting line up, Adam Buckley (23) putting up some resistance.

Gresford were unable to reach round two as they were beaten by eight wickets at Colwyn Bay.

Matthew Thompson struck a half century and Gareth Bell hit 25 as Gresford were bowled out for 144 by Bay, who saw Selwyn Morris (3-15) and Shaun Davies (3-26).

After the turnaround, Simon Perry claimed 2-39 for Gresford, but Patrick Leach (44) and George Johansen (42 not out) saw Colwyn Bay to 145 for two inside 23 overs.

Brymbo, Buckley and Dolgellau also reached round two after Gwersyllt Park, Abergele and Hawarden Park conceded their respective ties.
