Top of the table Brymbo are looking to extend their stay at the summit by beating visiting Denbigh tomorrow afternoon.

Victories over Connah’s Quay and Northop saw James Claybrook’s side move 10 points clear at the top, despite the Wrexham-based outfit missing a host of first team regulars.

The skipper said: “It was an extremely pleasing weekend considering the players we had missing. Players are beginning to come into a bit of form and it shows our strength in depth.

“There’s no reason why we can’t stay at the top, we’ve got a good run of fixtures before we play Menai Bridge and Bangor and we are getting stronger week by week. We can definitely push on and extend our lead.”

Key to Brymbo’s impressive start to the campaign has been the club’s bowling attack.

Claybrook’s side conceded just 232 runs across their two victories last weekend, something the captain is rightly proud of.

He said: “The bowling has been brilliant so far this season, our spinners and catching have been exceptional. (Mohamed Nilam) Jayman and (Gareth) Boyes have struck up a great partnership in the opening games and I believe they both could take a lot of wickets come the end of the season.”

On the challenge of Denbigh, Claybrook, who has Joss Roberts, Gareth Pugh, Connor Davies and Mike Wright all available for selection, said: “We are very confident going into the weekend, we believe we can beat anyone especially at home and although Denbigh are a good side it’s all about us and our performance.”

Matty Turner and Greg King miss out for Brymbo. Turner is sidelined with a broken collarbone, Claybrook adding: “That’s a big blow and we all wish him a speedy recovery.”

Elsewhere, two of the three teams locked on 33 points - Menai Bridge and St Asaph - meet at Tyn-y-Cae, while Bangor, who are also joint-second, entertain lowly Pwllheli.
